On 15 June, the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) held a lecture on China's National Situation and the MSAR's 3rd Five-Year Plan. The event was attended by the Director-General of the Alliance for China and Portuguese-speaking Countries Cooperation Studies, Professor Tong Kai Chung, and an Advisor of the same Alliance, Professor Lok Wai Kin, who shared their perspectives and experiences in an exchange with the participants.
Under the theme "The Path, Achievements and Causes of China's Modernisation", Professor Lok Wai Kin recalled the three phases of China's modernisation: the difficult beginning, the laying of foundations and accelerated growth. At the same time, the academic explained the five fundamental characteristics of Chinese-style modernisation, namely: the modernisation of a huge population of 1.4 billion people; the modernisation of common prosperity for all the people; the modernisation of coordination between material civilisation and spiritual civilisation; the modernisation of harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature; and the modernisation that follows the path of peaceful development.
In turn, Professor Tong Kai Chung focused his intervention on the theme "The MSAR's 3rd Five-Year Plan: Better Integration and Service within the Overall Context of National Development", explaining the essential content of the aforementioned plan. The speaker highlighted, in particular, how Macao should deepen co-operation with Mainland China and leverage the advantages of its platform, in order to promote economic and trade co-operation with Portuguese-speaking Countries.
Those present at the lecture, actively participating in the question-and-answer sessions, included the trainees of the Colloquium on Infrastructure Investment and Construction between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, as well as the members of the Permanent Secretariat and other related staff.
