From June 13 to 15, 2025, a delegation from the Permanent Secretariat of Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) participated in a series of events at the 17th China (Fuzhou) International Seafood & Fisheries Expo in Fuzhou. The delegation included Secretariat members, representatives from embassies in China, representatives from the Trade Office of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macao SAR, and participants from the Colloquium on Blue Economy Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.
On June 13, Secretary-General Ji Xianzheng joined Deputy Secretary of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CPC and Secretary of the Fuzhou Municipal Committee of the CPC Guo Ningning, along with other guests, for the opening ceremony and exhibition tour. He also met with the Vice Mayor of Fuzhou Municipal People’s Government, Liang Dong. The Secretariat delegation attended the “Forum on the Development of the Maritime Economy and Fisheries” hosted by the Fuzhou Ocean and Fisheries Bureau, gaining insights into the development of marine fisheries in China, Brazil, Ecuador, Chile, Australia, Thailand, and the current state and assessment of Asian capture fisheries.
On the same afternoon, the Secretariat, in collaboration with the Fuzhou Municipal People’s Government and the Fujian Ocean and Fisheries Bureau, co-hosted the Marine Fisheries Industry Investment Promotion Session between Fuzhou and Portuguese-speaking Countries at the Fuzhou Strait International Conference and Exhibition Center.
In his speech, Ji Xianzheng stated that Forum Macao is committed to promoting comprehensive and mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries. In line with the Strategic Plan for Economic and Trade Cooperation (2024-2027) and the Agreement on Strengthening Economic and Trade Cooperation in the Press Center of the Complex of Commerce and Trade Cooperation Platform for China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, efforts will be made to implement the concurrence reached at the 6th Ministerial Conference. Liang Dong noted in his speech that Fuzhou is advancing the construction of a “maritime economy” as envisioned by President Xi Jinping, expressing hopes for Fuzhou and Portuguese-speaking countries to jointly establish fisheries bases, develop fishery resources, and expand international markets, while encouraging Fuzhou enterprises to “go global” and attract projects and investments to Fuzhou.
Representatives from nine Portuguese-speaking countries presented their marine economy policies and business opportunities. Key fisheries industrial park in Fuzhou, including Lianjiang County, Fuzhou Yuanhong Investment Zone, and Mawei Deep-Sea Era Industrial Park, highlighted advantages in deep-sea aquaculture, smart cold storage, and aquatic product processing. Companies, including Hongdong Pelagic Fishery, Fuzhou Honglong Marine Fishery, and Zhengguan Fishery Development, shared advanced technologies and experiences in distant-water fishing and aquaculture processing.
During their time in Fuzhou, the delegation held discussions with Fuzhou city leaders, visited the Portuguese-speaking Countries Fisheries Achievements Exhibition, various expo zones, and the Museum of Foochow Arsenal 1866.
