An official of the central Mozambican province of Tete has said the province will begin export kapenta and tilapia to China next year, O País reports.
The Mozambican newspaper quotes the official, Fatima Cinco-Reis, as saying in Macao that negotiations about exports to China are in progress.
A report by the Chinese government-run news agency, Xinhua, quotes Ms Cinco-Reis as saying the sales of kapenta and tilapia to China will be the first by Tete to Asia, and will mean plenty of tax revenue for the Mozambican government and income for Mozambican fisherfolk.
Kapenta and tilapia caught off Tete are already exported to Zambia, Zimbabwe and Congo, Xinhua says.
