Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi is attending today the ceremonial breaking of ground for an airport to be built by a Chinese company in Chongoene, in the south of his country, a written announcement posted on the presidential website says.
A Mozambican newspaper, Jornal Notícias, reported last month that China Aviation International Construction and Investment Co. Ltd will build the airport for US$75.1 million.
The presidential website says Mr Nyusi began yesterday a visit to southern Mozambique by attending the opening of a commercial development in Chibuto.
Another Mozambican newspaper, O País, reports that Anhui Foreign Economic Construction (Group) Co. Ltd of China built the complex, which covers 84,000 square metres and contains a supermarket, a hotel with 45 bedrooms, a restaurant, shops and a leisure park.
