The Chinese Embassy in Angola recently presented the Hengqin International Sci-Tech Innovation Competition for Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking Countries (HISIC 2026) in Luanda. Organised by the Executive Committee of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, the initiative aims to connect innovative projects from these countries and regions with the Chinese market.

The competition covers six areas: digital intelligence integration and artificial intelligence; advanced manufacturing and new materials; traditional Chinese medicine and big health; cultural tourism, exhibitions and digital commerce; green energy and sustainable development; and modern agriculture.

Chen Feng, Minister Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Angola, said that companies, universities, scientific research institutions, entrepreneurial teams and individuals with innovative projects could take part. She said the competition could help connect Angola’s innovation capacity with the Chinese market, facilitating access to funding, technology and co-operation partners.

Applications will remain open until 31 August. Between September and November, the competition will include qualification reviews, online assessments, in-person presentations and a final evaluation. The initiative provides for 100 winning projects and a total package of around RMB 200 million, equivalent to approximately €25 million, including cash prizes and funds to support entrepreneurship.
