Beijing Capital Airlines recently launched a new direct route between Beijing Daxing International Airport and Lisbon, which will operate for about three months. The new route will be operated once a week, on Mondays, using wide-body Airbus A330 aircraft. The estimated flight time is approximately 13 hours.
Portugal already has a regular connection to China operated by the same carrier, between Lisbon and Hangzhou, the capital of China’s Zhejiang Province. Prior to the launch of the new route, there were no regular direct flights between Lisbon and Beijing, with most connections made via airports in Europe or the Middle East.
At the welcome ceremony, the Ambassador of China to Portugal, Yang Yirui, said that the connection represented an important milestone in aviation co-operation between China and Portugal, helping to deepen bilateral collaboration in the areas of trade, investment, tourism, education and cultural exchange.
For her part, Karen Strougo, Chief Commercial Officer of ANA - Aeroportos de Portugal, highlighted that Lisbon was strengthening its position as an airport and transatlantic platform, enabling passengers from China to access destinations in Europe, the Americas and Africa through TAP Air Portugal’s network.
