China issued a statement on 2 June expressing support for Brazil's sovereignty, independence and autonomy. According to the Chinese State Council, the country expresses its readiness to expand the co-operation it has maintained with Brazil and with other Latin American countries. The Chinese statement in favour of Brazil took place in Beijing, within the framework of the China-Brazil Foreign Ministerial-Level Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue.
According to China's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi, China has always been a trusted friend of Latin American and Caribbean countries, expressing its readiness to work with countries in the region, including Brazil, to deepen and expand overall co-operation between China and Latin America.
Wang added that China supports Brazil in defending its national sovereignty, maintaining its independence and autonomy, and pursuing greater development.
The Minister argued that Brazil and China should move forward in building a Sino-Brazilian community, in order to jointly face various external challenges and generate greater synergy for the modernisation processes of both countries, as well as for the cohesion and strengthening of Global South countries. He further added that both sides should make progress in exchanges and co-operation in areas such as culture, education, tourism, sports, subnational regions, youth and the media.
Brazil's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, travelled to Beijing and took part in the meeting. Vieira stated that Brazil shares China's interest in expanding practical co-operation and international coordination between the two countries.
