The Chinese Ambassador to Brazil, Zhu Qingqiao, took part on 25 May in an international mission in the municipality of Olímpia, in São Paulo state, marked by project presentations, technical visits and meetings aimed at strengthening economic relations between Chinese companies and the region.
The agenda began in the area designated for the construction of the future international airport in the north of the state, where a technical visit took place accompanied by local authorities, including the mayor, Geninho Zuliani. During the visit, a symbolic planting of a pau-brasil seedling was carried out, representing friendship, co-operation and the strengthening of relations between Brazil and China.
The centrepiece of the visit was a strategic seminar that brought together diplomatic representatives, Chinese businesspeople, municipal officials and local economic agents, with emphasis on sectors such as tourism, agribusiness, infrastructure and technology.
Among the main projects presented were the new airport, aimed at boosting tourism and cargo logistics; the 4th Industrial District — located 13 kilometres from the future airport and including companies from the logistics, agro-industry, technology and export sectors — and the Olímpia Cidade Inteligente (Smart City Olímpia) programme, supported by funding from BNDES.
Also highlighted were the potential of regional agribusiness, agricultural expansion capacity and various projects structured through public-private partnerships, including a new convention centre, smart urban infrastructure and initiatives linked to solar energy.
