Brazil's Minister of Culture, Margareth Menezes, was in Beijing last week for an agenda dedicated to strengthening cultural co-operation between Brazil and China, with emphasis on the audiovisual sector and artistic exchange.
During the visit, the Minister met with the President of China Media Group (CMG), Shen Haixiong. The meeting focused on expanding the circulation of Brazilian content in the Chinese market and deepening co-operation in the audiovisual sector.
In her speech at the meeting, she highlighted Chinese audience interest in Brazilian productions, with films currently showing receiving a positive reception. Potential partnership opportunities were also discussed, including holding a Chinese film festival in Brazil and Brazilian participation in sector events in China, notably a festival in Shanghai.
Throughout the talks, Chinese representatives referred to the President Xi Jinping's vision regarding the strategic role of Brazil and China within the Global South, particularly in promoting a culture of peace. In response, the Minister underscored President Lula da Silva's direction to strengthen bilateral relations, emphasising culture as a central axis of this dialogue.
