Chinese President Xi Jinping has sent a congratulatory message to Portugal’s new President, António José Seguro, who was sworn in today. Xi highlighted the deep friendship between China and Portugal and noted that, over the 47 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries have maintained mutual respect and support, resolved the Macau issue with political wisdom, and sustained close co-ordination in international affairs, thereby ensuring the sound and steady development of bilateral relations.
Xi also stressed that he attaches great importance to the development of China–Portugal relations and expressed his willingness to work together with the Portuguese President to strengthen strategic communication, consolidate high-level mutual trust, promote high-quality co-operation and further enrich the strategic partnership, bringing greater benefits to the peoples of both countries.
