The Confucius Institute at the University of Aveiro celebrated Chinese New Year on 20 February with the opening of ‘Porcelain in Pieces: Exhibition of Chinese Boxes’, marking the year of the ‘Fire Horse’, a symbol of energy, renewal and movement.

The celebration featured a small exhibition of Chinese culture, with calligraphy, traditional tea and clothing, inviting the public to experience some of China's most emblematic traditions up close. The celebration also included the opening of the exhibition ‘Porcelain in Pieces: Exhibition of Chinese Boxes,’ conceived by museologist Xavier Reis. The exhibition presents pieces created from fragments of Chinese porcelain from different periods, transformed by artisans into new artistic objects, where the whole is reborn from the parts and tradition is reinvented through creativity.

These initiatives, promoted by the Confucius Institute at the University of Aveiro, aimed to bring the academic community and the general public closer to Chinese culture through a diverse programme that combines celebration, cultural heritage and artistic reflection. The proposed activities seek to enhance intercultural dialogue and strengthen knowledge about China's traditions and cultural expressions in an open and inclusive academic context.
