The University Council of the São Paulo State University (Unesp) has approved the creation of a bachelor's degree in Chinese Language and Culture, an unprecedented initiative in Brazil that will now be included in the institution's list of undergraduate courses.

The first 40 places will be awarded in the 2026 Unesp Mid-Year Entrance Exam, with the first class scheduled to start in August, the month that marks the beginning of the academic year in China. The degree program will be based at the FCL (Faculty of Sciences and Letters) on the Assis campus, with evening classes and a minimum duration of four years.

The project's main distinguishing feature is its shared degree structure, which allows students to spend the final two years at Hubei University in China, through a cooperation agreement signed between Unesp and the Chinese institution, with the endorsement of the Asian country's Ministry of Education.

At the end of this first two-year period, 15 to 20 graduates will be able to continue their studies in China through a selection process that will consider the level of proficiency acquired and academic performance, among other factors.
