Brazil and China have begun construction of an industrial megacomplex in the Port of Suape, Pernambuco, which promises to boost development in the Northeast and strengthen economic ties between the two countries.

The project is being presented as a milestone in Brazilian reindustrialization. It is expected to attract investments estimated at R$ 8 billion, focusing on sustainable fuels, chemical exports, and low-carbon technologies.

Sources linked to the state government say that initial work has begun with soil movement and basic infrastructure. Construction is expected to proceed in phases, generating around 10,000 direct and indirect jobs during peak activity.

The Port of Suape is currently the main logistics hub in the Northeast. Relations between Brazil and China have been consolidating for two decades, and Suape is now a reflection of this rapprochement.
