The work “Será este livro um romance?” (Is this book a novel?) by Angolan writer João Melo will be published in October in mainland China and the Macau Special Administrative Region, in a joint edition by the publishers Lijiang and Macanese.
João Melo, an award-winning Angolan author, has had works published in several countries. This year, his books are also expected to be published in India and Poland. Aged 70 and writing for over 50 years, he is known for his poetry and short stories, as well as his extensive contributions to the Angolan press and other Portuguese-speaking countries, and is a deeply influential figure in the literary world.
British professor David Brookshaw wrote about the novel: “As the title suggests, this is not a prototypical African novel. Melo plays with notions of authorial authenticity, narrator reliability, and perspective, introducing an element of magical realism.”
