Recently, the mayor of Fortaleza, Evandro Leitão, welcomed a delegation from the Chinese city of Xiamen at a time of progress in the partnership established by the sister cities agreement, which aims to strengthen joint actions in the areas of culture, education, media, and international relations.

“Fortaleza and Xiamen are sister cities that already have a good relationship in several areas. We are working to expand this relationship, which can bring investments from China and generate exchanges of knowledge that contribute to the growth of both cities,” said the mayor.

Ten years ago, Fortaleza hosted a meeting of the BRICS, a bloc for political and diplomatic coordination among countries of the Global South and cooperation in a wide range of areas. To mark the decade and to increase Fortaleza's visibility on the international stage, especially in China, the Xiamen delegation is also visiting the capital of Ceará to record a documentary about the city. The team of Chinese journalists conducted interviews and visited relevant locations, such as the Fish Market and the Ceará Event Center.
