The president of the Brazilian Tourism Board (Embratur), Marcelo Freixo, recently stated that the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30), to be held in November in Belém, in the state of Pará, northern Brazil, represents an important opportunity to boost tourism as an instrument of sustainable development in the Amazon and attract more Chinese visitors to Brazil.
Freixo explained that the Brazilian government has already developed a tourism promotion plan aimed at the Chinese public. Recently, Brazilian authorities signed cooperation agreements with several tourism companies in China and launched an official website in Mandarin. The number of Brazilian agencies certified to receive Chinese tourists rose from 39 in 2023 to more than 260 in 2024, significantly increasing reception capacity.
“The profile of Chinese tourists, with their keen interest in nature, ecology, and culture, is highly aligned with Brazil's attractions... We will always welcome Chinese tourists with open arms,” concluded Freixo. “Brazil has the conditions, resources, and goodwill to offer Chinese visitors unique and diverse experiences.”
