The Caculo Cabaça hydroelectric power plant, built by China Gezhouba Group Co. Ltd. (CGGC), has completed the water discharge tunnel, marking an important milestone in the construction of the Chinese company's largest hydroelectric project in that country.

Angola's Minister of Energy and Water, João Borges, said that the progress of the project is satisfactory. He mentioned that this project has strategic significance for Angola, not only increasing the country's electricity production level, but also improving the reliability of the national electricity system and supporting important growing industrial sectors in the country.

According to the information, the Caculo Cabaça hydroelectric power plant is located in the middle of the Cuanza River, Angola's largest river. With an installed capacity of 2,172 megawatts, the project, when completed, will have an average annual production of 8,566 gigawatt-hours of electricity, reducing about 7.2 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year, and will also play an important role in flood prevention. During peak construction, the project will provide more than 6,000 local jobs.
