Cofco International announced an investment of R$1.2 billion in the purchase of 979 wagons and 23 locomotives to strengthen its logistics operations in Brazil. The objective of the investment is to optimize the rail transport of products to the Port of Santos, in partnership with the Brazilian railway operator Rumo.
According to Fabrício Degani, logistics director for the grains and oilseeds division of Cofco International in Brazil, the partnership between the companies represents an important milestone for Brazilian logistics, with the potential to significantly reduce the number of trucks on the roads, ease traffic and reduce environmental impact.
The wagons and locomotives will begin to be delivered in March and the fleet is expected to enter full operation by the first quarter of 2026. When completed, the system will be capable of transporting up to 14.5 million tons of agricultural products per year, including soy, corn and sugar.
