The groundbreaking of the Comoro Substation and 150kv Transmission Line took place on January 9 in Fomento, Dili, with the aim of strengthening the supply of electricity to the population of Dili. The initiative was organized by the Ministry of Public Works and Electricity of Timor-Leste (EDTL), with the support of the Chinese government.

The project was launched by the Prime Minister, Xanana Gusmão, and the Chinese Ambassador to East Timor, Wang Wenli. Expected to last 15 months, the project will be implemented by the Chinese company TBEA International Engineering and will cost around 25 million US dollars, 18 of which will go towards building the substation and seven towards the transmission line.

In his speech, the Minister for Public Works, Samuel Marçal, highlighted the need to build another substation to guarantee the supply of electricity to the population of Dili and recalled that the Camea substation only distributes electricity to the municipalities of Aileu and Ermera.
