Portuguese Foreign Minister Augusto Santos Silva has said negotiations about allowing Portugal to export pork to China are in their final stage, Lusa reports.
The Portuguese news agency quotes Mr Santos Silva as saying in Beijing that Chinese inspectors have visited Portuguese slaughterhouses to ascertain that they are up to standard.
“We have also already sent the necessary paperwork,” Mr Santos Silva said.
He said pork exports could pave the way for exports to China of other Portuguese farm products, such as fruit.
The minister met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing to prepare for Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Portugal on December 4 and 5, Lusa says.
