Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has said Sino-East Timorese relations are developing swiftly and steadily, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese state-run news agency quotes Mr Li as saying so in a message to East Timorese Prime Minister Mari Alkatiri congratulating him on his assumption of office.

Mr Li said he was willing to establish a sound working relationship and personal friendship with Mr Alkatiri so they could jointly strengthen Sino-East Timorese ties for the benefit of their respective nations.

Mr Alkatiri became prime minister for the second time in the history of East Timor after his Fretilin party won a general election held in July. He will serve until 2021.
