Trade in merchandise between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries reached US$81.807 billion in the period from January to May 2023. It represented a 1.76 percent decrease year-on-year, according to data from China Customs. Portuguese-speaking Countries sold goods worth US$52.498 billion to China in the first five months of 2023 – a decrease of 5.37 percent year-on-year. The value of China’s merchandise exports to those countries reached US$29.309 billion in the same period, up 5.46 percent year-on-year.
The total value of merchandise traded in May between the parties topped US$20.780 billion, a decrease of 0.18 percent from the prior-year period.The value of China’s merchandise imports from Portuguese-speaking Countries reached US$14.739 billion, up 3.86 percent year-to-year, according to Chinese official data. China sold goods to those countries worth US$6.041 billion in May, a decrease of 8.83 percent compared with the previous year.
