The fourth Workshop on Understanding Chinese Modernisation opened at the Communication University of China (CUC) in Beijing on 22 September. Held under the theme “Exploring Common Prosperity”, the event forms part of the 2026 China–Brazil Cultural Year and brings together representatives from the diplomatic, academic, business and media sectors of both countries, as well as university staff and students.

At the opening session, CUC Vice-President Ren Mengshan stressed the importance of dialogue on development paths and the challenges of modernisation. He also highlighted the consensus reached by the two heads of state on deepening efforts to build a China–Brazil community with a shared future.

Mânlio Souza Morelli, head of the Guimarães Rosa Institute in Beijing and the Press and Public Diplomacy Section of the Embassy of Brazil in China, said the event provided an opportunity to share experiences and create new channels for dialogue. In his view, direct contact helps deepen mutual understanding.

During the ceremony, participants discussed poverty eradication in China, the challenges of global modernisation and common prosperity. The programme includes visits for Brazilian participants to sites in Beijing and Zhejiang Province, where they will learn about experiences related to these themes.

The initiative is organised by CUC’s Institute of Area and Country Communication Studies and the Publicity Departments of the Wenzhou and Quzhou Municipal Committees of the Communist Party of China.
