The INPI and the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) recently signed a memorandum of understanding in Rio de Janeiro to extend the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) pilot program between the two countries until 2029, in addition to discussing a proposal for enhanced bilateral cooperation on patents.
On that occasion, the INPI was represented by President Júlio César Moreira and the CNIPA by Deputy Commissioner Lu Pengqi, in addition to their respective delegations. Through the PPH, Brazilian applicants can use the results of the INPI's examination of their patent application to speed up the analysis in China and vice versa, which helps to streamline the procedure and reduce costs.
Considering the bilateral agreements and Brazil's participation in the Global PPH program, the country has 35 partners in initiatives linked to the PPH, including Germany, Canada, the United States, Europe, the United Kingdom, and Russia, among others.
