As the world moves away from unipolar hegemony, strengthening mutual trust between China and the European Union (EU) is of practical importance for global stability, Rui Lourido, president of the Portugal-based think tank China Observatory, said recently in an interview with Xinhua.
“In the 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the EU, both sides have consistently contributed to global stability in a responsible manner, even in the face of complex international circumstances,” Lourido said.
The expert pointed out that Chinese companies have made rapid progress in areas such as electric motor and battery technologies, green energy development, and sustainable reforestation, offering valuable lessons for other countries. Greater technological cooperation and joint investments between the EU and China would help both sides achieve their environmental goals, Lourido added, stressing that the two sides should continue to promote mutual learning between civilizations and further deepen economic and cultural ties to broaden mutual understanding.
