The director of the Confucius Institute, Ermelinda Tavares, told Inforpress in Praia that the institute promotes the integration of Chinese and Cape Verdean cultures by teaching Mandarin, facilitating cultural exchange, and training young people for academic and professional opportunities.

Ermelinda Tavares explained that the Institute does not limit itself to bringing elements of Chinese culture to Cape Verde, but also seeks to value and share Cape Verdean culture with the Chinese, and to build bridges of understanding between cultures. Ermelinda Tavares also emphasized that cultural integration is essential to strengthening ties with China, while offering young Cape Verdeans enriching experiences that can be applied in academic and professional contexts.

She considered cooperation with China to be “very positive,” highlighting the constant support of the People's Republic of China, and reinforced the Institute's commitment to continue developing programs that integrate education, culture, and health to promote the well-being and empowerment of young Cape Verdeans.
