Education and Youth Development Bureau of Macao (DSEDJ) has announced a new step in promoting Portuguese language teaching through a twinning arrangement between the Luís Gonzaga Gomes Portuguese-Chinese Secondary School, Guangzhou No. 6 Secondary School, and the Cacilhas-Tejo Secondary School in Portugal. The initiative is part of Macao's strategy to strengthen its role as a bridge between China and Portuguese-speaking countries under the “One Belt, One Road” initiative.

According to the DSEDJ, the tripartite agreement aims to deepen cultural and linguistic exchange between teachers and students through joint activities such as face-to-face and online Portuguese language classes and studies, pedagogical sharing sessions, and Sino-Portuguese cultural events. The cooperation also aims to improve the language proficiency of non-higher education students in Macao and strengthen the training of bilingual staff in Chinese and Portuguese, who are increasingly in demand in the regional market.

In the future, Macao intends to expand these educational partnerships with schools in mainland China and Portuguese-speaking countries, consolidating its position as a center of excellence in Portuguese language teaching and as a strategic link for international cooperation between China and the Portuguese-speaking world.
