Recently, a symposium marking 50 years of diplomatic relations between Mozambique and China was held in Maputo, bringing together academics in international relations, economics, and development from Joaquim Chissano University (UJC), as well as representatives from both governments and students.
At the event, Mozambican academics advocated for improvements in the cooperation strategy between the People's Republic of China and Africa, including Mozambique, emphasizing the importance of taking advantage of investment, technology, and trade opportunities, but also of setting their own priorities to ensure balanced gains.
UJC Vice-Rector Paulo Wache highlighted the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative launched by China between 2021 and 2023. “China demonstrates that it wants to and can lead the world with ideas centered on the Global South. It is not enough to have proposals; you need resources to sustain them, and China has the means to implement them,” he said.
