The New BRICS Bank has approved US$370 million (R$1.7 billion) in financing for the construction of ITMI-Brasil (Technological Institute of Intelligent Medicine). It will be the first smart hospital in the country.
The concept of a smart hospital is the integration of medical care with cutting-edge technologies, such as artificial intelligence, 5G-connected ambulances, and telehealth. According to the Ministry of Health, the goal is to reduce the time of care in serious cases from up to 17 hours to 2 hours.
The project was presented by Health Minister Alexandra Padilha to the New Development Bank in July. In addition to the institution's financing, the federal government will contribute R$ 110 million and the São Paulo state government another R$ 55 million.
Construction will begin in 2026 and be completed in 2029. The first consultations are expected to begin in 2027.
