Recently, the government, with support from the Chinese medical team, launched a national spatial fumigation campaign aimed at eradicating the increase in malaria cases recorded in recent times in the archipelago.
The official launch ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Health, Celso Matos, in the presence of the Chargé d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy, Zheng Xi, the Director of the National Center for Endemic Diseases, and other public and private entities. In his speech, Health Minister Celso Matos said that “this is another decisive step towards a malaria-free future,” stressing that “the fumigation campaign is a powerful weapon to reduce the population of transmitting mosquitoes and save thousands of lives.”
The representative of the Chinese Embassy said that “this campaign is not only preventive, it is a fundamental shield before the rainy season. It represents the union between São Tomé and Príncipe and China in favor of public health.”
