Chinese businessmen announce investment of 600 billion CFA francs in the mining, fishing and energy sectors

On May 19, a group of about two dozen Chinese businessmen met in Guinea-Bissau to prospect the market and announced a package of more than 600 billion CFA francs to invest in the mining, fishing and energy sectors.


The group was led by the chairman of the China-Africa Working Committee for China-Africa Economic Cooperation and Development, Ye Junyi, and accompanied by the Guinea-Bissau ambassador to the People's Republic of China, António Serifo Embaló. The aim is to prospect the Guinean market and assess investment conditions, having chosen five priority sectors for significant investment, namely: mining, fisheries, agriculture, energy and health.


The group's interest in investing in Guinea-Bissau was expressed on May 20 at a press conference by the head of the delegation, Ye Junyi.


Present at the press conference, Guinea-Bissau's ambassador to China, António Serifo Embaló, stressed the importance of Chinese investment for the growth of Guinea-Bissau's economy and the well-being of the population, adding that the group will help the country to process local products and create jobs for young people
