The Chinese multinational company, Hua Guang Welding, has chosen Parkurbis - Parque de Ciências e Tecnologia da Covilhã to set up its first industrial unit in Portugal, starting in 2026, with an initial value of 15 million euros. The investing company is one of the world's leading manufacturers of industrial welds for sectors such as refrigeration, the automotive industry and air conditioning.
After a year of negotiations involving the Municipality of Covilhã, Parkurbis, the University of Beira Interior (UBI) and the Covilhã, Belmonte and Penamacor Business Association (AECBP), the Chinese multinational has acquired a plot of land, where it will start building the unit in 2026, Parkurbis explains in a statement.
The new unit is expected to create 150 qualified jobs in the initial phase, mostly for engineers and technicians trained at UBI, and the number of workers could grow to 600 in future phases.
