The Ministry of Agriculture and the Sea has concluded negotiations with China to establish the necessary requirements for exporting pears to that market, paving the way for Portuguese pears to enter the Chinese market from 2026.

“The negotiation process between the Ministry of Agriculture and the Sea and the General Administration of Customs (GACC) of the People's Republic of China has been concluded, with a view to establishing the necessary requirements for the export of national pears to that market,” according to a note from the Directorate-General for Food and Veterinary Affairs (DGAV).

However, the registration of orchards and packing centers on the Management Platform for Phytosanitary Prevention and Control (GESFITO) can only be considered from the 2026 campaign onwards. The DGAV is thus finalizing the procedures for the implementation of the phytosanitary protocol.
