China’s Jiangsu Province is organising the “7th Jiangsu – Macau – Portuguese-speaking Countries Business Forum”, being held from October 19 to 21. The Business Forum features a number of high-profile activities, including: the opening ceremony; a presentation about Suqian prefecture; a Jiangsu crabmeat tasting session; and a meeting of the Working Group for Promoting Trade and Investment Cooperation between Jiangsu

The Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) has again installed a Portuguese-speaking Countries’ Pavilion at the “Macao International Trade and Investment Fair” (MIF), which marked its 22nd edition this year.

Four artists from, respectively, Brazil, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Macao have been invited to exhibit individually during the 9th Cultural Week of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.

The opening ceremony of the 9th Cultural Week of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries was held at the Tromba Rija restaurant in Macau Tower on October 17. The Cultural Week isjointly organised by the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao and the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR), and was co-organised by the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau and the Macao Government Tourism Office.

A delegation of the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao), led by the Deputy Secretary-General, Dr. Rodrigo Brum, visited Guangzhou, in Guangdong Province, from October 14 to 15, to participate in the 122nd China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair). The delegation visited several pavilions at the Fair and exchanged views with business people.

The “3rd Young Entrepreneurs Forum of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries” took place at the Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel on October 18. The event was jointly organised by the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation Between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao); the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM); Macao Economic Services

Theatrical groups from Mozambique, Portugal, East Timor, São Tomé and Príncipe and Macao will take part in the Portuguese-speaking Countries’ Theatre Festival from October 14 to 19 at the Dom Pedro V Theatre as part of the 9th Cultural Week of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.

Artisans from China, Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and Timor-Leste have been invited to take part in the 9th Handicraft Fair of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, which takes place at Macau Tower Convention and Entertainment Centre between 11am and 7pm from October 14 to 18.

The Portuguese-speaking Countries’ gastronomic festival “World of Flavours” was held from October 14 to 18, in Tromba Rija restaurant at Macao Tower. Chefs from Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, Goa and Macau took part in the event, as part of the 9th Cultural Week of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.

As part of the 9th Cultural Week of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, the exhibition “Painting, Transparency and Illusion”, from Macau artist Filipe Dores, opened to the public on October 14 and runs until November 12, at the Gallery in the Residence of the Portuguese Consulate.

Due to the arrival of a typhoon, the signal number 8 was hoisted in Hong Kong at 9am and in Macao at 10am. As a result, the Hong Kong airport has been temporarily closed, as well as the ferry terminals in Hong Kong and at the airport. All ferry services have been temporarily suspended.

Given the proximity of a typhoon to Macao and the fact that the signal number 8 was raised at 10am, several activities of the Cultural Week of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries scheduled for today have been cancelled. Those activities include the handicraft and art fair, the World of Flavours’ from Portuguese-speaking Countries, theatre shows and art exhibitions.
