SGBH (State Grid Brazil Holding) - a subsidiary of the Chinese state-owned Grid Corporation - recently laid the foundation stone - the first step - for the construction of the transmission line that will take electricity produced in the Northeast by wind, solar and hydroelectric power plants to the Midwest. The expectation is that around 12 million people will benefit in various locations in the Midwest, such as Brasília (DF).
The project consists of the construction of a 1,468-kilometer direct current ultra-high voltage (800 kV) transmission line and two alternating current converter stations and support units, with a transmission capacity of 5 million kW.
The initiative will connect the towns of Graça Aranha (MA) and Silvânia (GO), passing through Tocantins. Around R$23 billion will be invested. SGBH estimates that the project will be completed in 2029, with commercial operation starting in March 2030. The concession period is 30 years.
