The 11th edition of the BRICS Parliamentary Forum began on June 3 at the National Congress in Brasilia. The event is the epicenter of the debate on the future of emerging countries and brings together delegations from 15 nations, including China, Russia, India, and South Africa, as well as partners such as Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia.
The forum's agenda reflects contemporary challenges, with an emphasis on the Brazil-China partnership. The panels will discuss the regulation of artificial intelligence, the climate crisis with a focus on green financing—an area where Chinese investments in Brazil have exceeded $30 billion since 2020—and the intensification of multilateral trade, including the use of local currencies to strengthen resilience to bilateral trade risks.
The Brazil-China relationship is described as a cross-cutting theme of the meeting. In 2023, bilateral trade reached US$104 billion, the highest volume in history, fully demonstrating the breadth and depth of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
