The Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) launched in 2008 the Cultural Week of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries. The event has now become an annual fixture of China’s and Portuguese-speaking Countries’ cultural exchanges.
In previous editions, artists from Mainland China, Portuguese-speaking Countries and Macao gathered in Macao to showcase their work through performances, exhibitions and other activities, allowing audiences to enjoy the cultural diversity of each of these places.
The 10th Cultural Week of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries will, as in previous editions, promote the shared development and prosperity of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries. This year’s edition will feature – as have previous editions – music and dance performances by artists from China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries; a theatre festival featuring drama groups from Portuguese-speaking Countries and Macao; art exhibitions; a craft fair featuring products from China and Portuguese-speaking Countries; and a series of food promotions highlighting the gastronomy of Portuguese-speaking Countries. The overall goal of the Cultural Week is to highlight the cultural resources of all the places involved.
The Cultural Week is inspired by the concept of a “Cultural Belt and Road”. The event aims further to promote ties between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries through cultural exchanges, and foster mutual understanding and cultural cooperation, making use of Macao’s unique advantages as a cooperation platform.
