The Chinese Ministry of Commerce believes Macao can play a unique and important role in trade and other economic relations between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries, and between China and Latin America.
Ministry of Commerce spokesman Gao Feng told reporters that Macao is increasingly fulfilling its purpose as a place where China and the Portuguese-speaking world can do business.
Mr Gao said that over the years Brazil and other parts of the Portuguese-speaking world had come to appreciate the performance of Macao in this role.
He said the Portuguese-speaking Countries looked forward to enhancing their co-operation with China through Macao.
China is now the second-biggest trading partner of Latin America in general and the biggest trading partner of several individual countries on the continent, the Ministry of Commerce spokesman said.
