The new Embraer E195-E2 airliner has begun a tour of the world, meant to show off its capabilities to potential buyers, by landing at Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport in southern China, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese government-run news agency says the aircraft is the biggest yet built by Embraer, a Brazilian planemaker, being capable of seating 146 passengers in just one class or 120 in two classes.

The report quotes Embraer Commercial Aviation Chief Executive John Slattery as saying the aircraft is ideal for regional airlines and for complementing the fleets of low-cost and full-service carriers.

The Chinese authorities are taking action to develop regional air services to meet demand for flights to and from less important cities, so creating a huge market for planemakers, Xinhua quotes Embraer China President Guan Dongyuan as saying.
